FOREIGNER, GHANAIAN ACCOMPLICE CONVICTED OVER GHANA CARD

The Offinso Circuit Court presided over by His Lordship Frederick Kwabena Twumasi, has found Justin Jeff Manu, a Nigerian, guilty of impersonating a Ghanaian in order to get a Ghana Card in violation of the law.

 

Mary Fowaa, a Ghanaian accomplice, was also found guilty.

 

According to a statement made by the National Identification Authority (NIA) on Thursday, March 24, 2022, Mary Fowaa went to the NIA's District Office in Offinso South to vouch for Mr. Manu.

 

Mr Manu was one of three children born to Madam Fowaa in Nigeria, according to Madam Fowaa at the office.

 

The Assistant Registration Officer noted certain anomalies in Mr. Manu's responses during the interview and assumed he wasn't a Ghanaian, which he confirmed after further interrogation. The District Police were alerted to the situation, and the criminal was investigated and convicted.

 

The two were arraigned before the Offinso Circuit Court on Thursday, April 7th, 2022, and were both sentenced to one year in prison or 200 punishment units.

 

Since then, the NIA has praised the Ghana Police Service's Offinso South CID.

 

The district in Ashanti Region was recognized for the speed with which the offense was investigated and prosecuted.

It has issued a warning to any foreigner who attempts to register for the elections.
