Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II, President of the National House of Chiefs (NHC), has stated that chiefs must work together to eliminate underdevelopment in their villages by resolving disagreements peacefully.

Chieftaincy issues, he noted, continued to cause misery and stymie progress in impacted areas.

He highlighted that the scenario produced unneeded stress, friction, and confrontations, leading to the government's use of precious resources to preserve calm.

On Tuesday, April 13, 2022, Ogyeahohoo Gyebi spoke at the General Meeting of the Central Regional House of Chiefs in Cape Coast.

Actions that are alarming

Worrisome acts and inactivity by some chieftaincy groups, he warned, should not be fanned, as they had the potential to cause disagreements and confrontations.

The NHC was not pleased that chiefs, as protectors of the people's ideals and ambitions, were often the source of stress and strife in the country, according to Ogyeahohoo Gyebi, the Paramount Chief of the Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area.

He said that some individuals have disrespected the chieftaincy institution as a result of the circumstance, adding that "if chieftaincy is to be respected by politicians, chiefs must themselves live honorable lives."

He urged chiefs to labor conscientiously to contribute to their people's growth and well-being.
