As Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League, Thomas Tuchel chastised the referee for disallowing Marcos Alonso's goal, and then voiced his displeasure with the official's interaction with Carlo Ancelotti.Tuchel had a difficult night, as all of his team's hard work was undone in a handful of minutes on each side of the 90-minute mark.
Chelsea had started strongly in the Bernabeu, hoping to overcome a 3-1 deficit from the first leg due to a hat-trick from Karim Benzema, and they appeared to be on track to progress late in the second half.
After Mason Mount and Antonio Rudiger equalized, Marcos Alonso was found to have handled the ball in what would have been the game-winning goal for the Blues. The goal was ruled out by VAR, and Tuchel was irritated that referee Szymon Marciniak didn't check the monitor personally before making his decision.
"The goal that was disallowed was not visible to me. I'm quite disappointed in the referee for not checking it himself. I am utterly unhappy. "After the game, the German spoke to BT Sport.
"Both matches gave me the impression that it was 51 on the other side, with all the decisions decided. When you play Real Madrid in the Champions League, it's like that. Today has been a bad day."
It wasn't the only thing that irritated the German; Marciniak's conversation with Real coach Ancelotti irritated him asTuchel called the referee 'unprofessional' for laughing with Ancelotti, though he did say that Ancelotti is a lovely guy.
Tuchel stated in his post-match press conference, "I was sad that the referee had a wonderful time with Carlo Anceloti. Carlo is a gentleman and a pleasant guy, however when I went to thank him, I noticed him smirking and laughing loudly with the opponent's coach.
"After 126 minutes of a team giving their all and fighting to the last drop, I believe this is the absolute wrong time to do this.
"It's incredibly horrible timing when you witness a referee smiling and laughing with the opposite coach. This is what I told him.
