Fisherfolk along Ghana's seaside districts; Central, Western, Greater Accra and Volta have promised not to stick to the shut season orders on the off chance that it is executed for the current year.

 

The fisherfolk say the activity has not yielded any sure outcome since its execution.

 

Talking at a public interview held in Cape Coast, anglers from the four seaside areas who were cladded in red, said they won't notice the conclusion of the time since it would deteriorate their lives.

 

"We are now experiencing because of the lacking stockpile of premix fuel. The little that comes is likewise given to the individuals who are not anglers or kayak proprietors and we purchase from them at excessive costs. Shutting the season this year will just deteriorate our difficulties" they mourned.

 

About the shut season

 

The shut season strategy what began in 2019 is as per segments 76(3) and 84 of the Fisheries Act, 2002 (Act 625) with the goal to lessen the strain and over-abuse of fish stocks in Ghana's marine waters.

 

The action is a significant stage towards renewing the exhausted marine fish stock, and it is additionally key to the Fisheries Management Plan of Ghana.
