AFTER A TENSE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE MATCH, ATLETICO MADRID AND MANCHESTER

Tensions in the Spanish capital boiled over in the dying minutes as City hung on to their slim lead to qualify for the last four. 

After Atletico Madrid beat Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-final decider on Wednesday, the rivalry between the two teams spilled over into the tunnel. 

Despite a late Atletico attack, City were able to hang on to win 1-0 on aggregate at the Wanda Metropolitano after a 0-0 stalemate on the night. 

 

However, the game was overshadowed in the last minutes by a brawl involving many players from both teams, and the game's conclusion did little to defuse tensions, with players allegedly needing to be separated as they made their way to the locker room.

"We're all players, and we know what happens on the pitch remains on the pitch," City's Rodri, an ex-Atletico player, told Movistar about the tunnel brawl, in which Stefan Savic and Jack Grealish had to be separated after a prior on-field brawl. 

"It's a game full of emotions and a nail-biting finish." I have no idea what happened. "I've tried to get away - they're my former team-mates, and these types of things aren't pleasant," says the narrator. It's only anecdotal evidence, and we were able to separate [the aggressors]."
