There has been a terrorist attack in a town in Burkina Faso close to a border town in Ghana called Kulungugu. This follows a military takeover in the that country a couple of days ago.

This latest attack in Burkina Faso has put fear in many in Ghana given that the attack happened so close to a border town in Ghana.

The fear in many Ghanaian with this latest attack in Burkina Faso is amplified by the fact that it occurred near our border where there was an attempted bomb attack on our first president in 2nd August 1962.

Honorable James Agalga, the former deputy interior Minister under John Mahama Administration speaking to an Accra Based Joy Fm on the above issue; indicated that there is a need for the government of Ghana to do more to protect its citizens.

He said there has been enough deployment of troops to the Upper regions of Ghana following the coup in Burkina Faso.

He further indicated that there must be intelligence gathering and that the government must do all it can to end the conflict in Bawku if not, it will serve as a fertile ground for terrorist infiltration in to our country.

The Minister of defense, the honorable Dominic Nitiwu speaking on the same issue on the FM station indicated that citizens should not entertain fear as things are in control. He said security has been beefed up to nip any disturbances in the bud.

The Minister assured all especially those in the Bawku enclave to go about their activities as usual but endeavor to report any unusual characters in their vicinity to the security services for the right thing to be done.

Reports of refuges from Burkina Faso in Ghana.

There have been reports of people from Burkina Faso crossing into Ghana following the military take over in that country. Speaking to Joy Fm, an Accra based radio station, Mr. Tetteh Kwao Padi: an acting executive secretary of the Ghana refugee board confirmed that 1238 refugees have entered into Ghana from Burkina Faso as of 31st January, 2022 following the coup in that country. He said the board is examining them and those with criminal elements will be reported to the security services.
