BLOOMBERG DIRECTOR CONFERS WITH ACCRA MAYOR ON ROAD SAFETY

Elizabeth Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey, Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, met with Kelly Larson, Director of Projects at Bloomberg Philanthropies (BPs), to consider interventions to enhance road safety in Accra.

 

Kelly Larson is in Accra for a three-day working visit with authorities to discuss ways to improve road safety and reduce injuries and deaths.

 

The encounter, which took place over the weekend, was an opportunity for the two to meet for the first time.

 

The Mayor of Accra, who greeted the visiting Director cordially, thanked Bloomberg Philanthropies for their work over the years to minimize traffic fatalities and their repercussions in the capital city.

She pledged to work with organizations and other stakeholders to create interventions to minimize traffic accidents in the city.

 

She emphasized the need of using speed reduction measures such as speed limit signs and rumble strips in areas where there are a lot of pedestrians to assist in curb speeding.

 

She noted current road safety enhancement works on London Market Street in Jamestown as among of the interventions being made to improve road safety in Accra and expressed hope that when finished, they will assist address the concerns of speeding on that stretch of road.

 

 

In her remarks, Madam Kelly Larson underlined BP's commitment to improving lives through the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS), highlighting the latest phase of the initiative.
