At least eight persons were reported dead and five others were injured after unknown gunmen invaded the nomadic villages of Zakoli and Konkon in the Yendi district of the Northern Region on Wednesday evening.
The event occurred on Wednesday afternoon, according to reports, and numerous thatched dwellings and other structures were set ablaze.
On motorcycles, the gunmen are claimed to have attacked the neighborhoods and started fire on the residents.
Only men, even male minors, were allegedly targeted.
Confirmation
Superintendent Richardson Kumeko, the Yendi Divisional Police Commander, confirmed the event to Graphic Online, saying the deceased were sent to the Yendi Government Hospital morgue while the injured were treated at the same facility.
While an investigation into the incident is underway, police forces have been sent to the neighbourhood to preserve calm.
Incident
The reason for the attacks on the two nomadic communities is unknown.
However, according to Graphic Online, a robbery attack on the Yendi-Tatale route on Tuesday night resulted in the death of a young guy.
The mysterious shooters assaulted them in vengeance for the robbery incident, believing the thieves were nomads.
The attackers assaulted the neighborhoods in the afternoon, according to eyewitnesses, and began shooting indiscriminately and destroying thatched dwellings and belongings.
