The National Labour Commission (NLC) has ordered the Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana (CENTSAG) to end their strike and resume discussions with their employer, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), about their grievances.
The NLC found that the strike was unconstitutional because CENTSAG did not follow due process before going on strike.
CENTSAG was ordered to interact with their employers and return on March 30th to report the conclusion for the Commission's assessment and determination in a prior meeting at the invitation of the NLC. They were unable to do so, instead rallying their colleagues to go on an indefinite strike.
The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Commission (NLC) seeking a declaration on the strike.
After today's judgement, GTEC has invited CENTSAG to a meeting on Friday at 8 a.m., following CENTSAG's decision to call off the strike, as the law prohibits such participation during a strike.
