Ghana recorded its first ever one day strike at Komfo Anokye teaching hospital(KATH).
The doctors strike though a localized one in that it was limited to KATH had great impact. The doctors declared the strike over the failure of the hospital's management to meet their demands over two issues of car and 13th month allowances.
As essential services providers, doctors are mostly by their code of ethics frown upon from embarking on industrial actions. However, the failure of governments over the years to address their concerns have forced most essential service providers to go on strike.
The doctors who had planned the strike a couple of days ago had to call it of over management commitment to resolve their issues.
Empty seats greets visitors to the hospital.
There were empty seats along most areas of the hospital over the doctors strike. Many who had travel far to the hospital for various services had to return home. Those who could not go home due to the severity of their conditions had to go to nearby health facilities to access health care.
Later in the day, an agreement between management of the hospital and the doctor's leadership paved way for the strike to be called off making it one of the shortest strikes ever recorded.
