Many teachers are rejoicing over what they say is a departure from a state of vindictiveness to freedom. This follows a viral video of the Education Minister declaring on a private television station that lessons notes in books are a thing of the past. He stated in that interview that, with each teacher having a laptop of his/her own now, they will be required to write the lessons notes and send soft copies to their headteachers.

A lesson note is a document detailing how the teacher intends to deliver the lesson and the activities the learners will undertake in the lesson delivery to influence learning. Lesson notes are very critical in any school environment since it helps the teacher to prepare ahead of the lesson. The process helps the teacher gather the right teaching and learning materials that will aid teaching and learning. It also helps substitute teachers who may not be expert in that field to lead the class in the absence of the main teacher.

The substitute teacher will merely have to follow the lesson as presented by the main teacher in the lesson note.

Vindictiveness from headteachers over lesson notes and the refusal of some teachers not to submit lesson notes.

Many teachers have suffered under the hand of heads of schools because of lesson notes.

Teachers are expected to present either daily or weekly lesson notes(plan) for the headteacher to vert them before they deliver the lessons in class. The head teacher is expected to determine if the teacher follow due process and is presenting the lesson and its activities in a way that foster easy learning. This single procedure which should have been followed by both parties to facilitate teaching and learning have been a major problem in most schools. It has brought tension between teachers and their headteachers. Most of it had resulted in physical exchanges and vindictiveness melted out to those at the receiving end.

Push by teachers for lesson notes to be "type".

Over the years, many teachers have pushed for the lesson notes which have mainly been on notebooks to go digital. Most young teachers who are digitally inclined had wished that they give them the chance to write the notes using their personal computers and submit them in print out or as soft copies. Much as they try, their request have always been turned down by the headteachers with the excuse that circuit supervisors and other educational officials who visit the schools will not accept the lesson notes in that form.

Education Minister directive elicit joy from teachers.

The information from the Education Minister in that viral video over the lesson note issue have been received with joy. It was more than overdue for it to have happened. Their happiness sterns from the fact that writing the lesson note using a computer is less cumbersome. The teacher can easily send the notes to headteacher on say Sunday and gets feedback on the same day for him to deliver his lesson on Monday morning without any hindrances.

The issue of "cut and paste" with the use of the computer even makes it more exciting. Many teachers are thanking the Minister for the directive and sharing the video widely to create awareness.
