Benito Owusu-Bio, the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, has declared that 31 housing units with 110 rooms will be available for displaced Apiatse villagers by May 1, 2022.

He stated that the building work is being accelerated in order to meet the new deadline.

He stated this after making his first visit to the region after people were evacuated by a strong rainfall last Friday.

Parts of the tent village used by residents whose homes were damaged by the recent explosion were devastated by torrential rains and high winds.

The latest development, according to several of the impacted people, is yet another threat to the health and safety of women and children at the Camp, adding that it would exacerbate their problems. The re-displaced people will have to endure the harsh weather for at least another two weeks while the Lands and Natural Resources Ministry works against the clock to provide them with a roof over their temporary living area.

The Ministry foresaw the rains, according to Benito Owusu-Bio, which is why the relocation process is moving quickly.
