Ceyhun Kazanci, Besiktas' sports director, has confirmed that none of the players currently on loan at the Turkish club will return for next season, meaning Barcelona's Miralem Pjanic will return to the Camp Nou after spending the 2021/22 season in Turkey.
The former Juventus midfielder, however, is not in Xavi Hernandez's plans, and Barcelona will be desperate to get rid of him because he costs the club roughly 30 million euros every year.
With Pjanic's contract expiring in 2024, the Catalans will begin looking for a new home for him ahead of next season.
Pjanic was signed by Barcelona to help them balance their accounts in the summer of 2020, when Arthur Melo was traded to Juventus for 72 million euros.
The Blaugrana paid 60 million euros for Pjanic's four-year contract, which means they must pay 15 million euros in amortisation fees each year, as well as a similar sum to cover his salary.
The fates of Pjanic, Antoine Griezmann, and Philippe Coutinho will determine Barcelona's transfer strategy for the 2022/23 season.
Atletico Madrid and Aston Villa will have to decide whether to keep Griezmann and Coutinho, respectively, and if Barcelona is successful in offloading them, they will receive a 40 million euro fee and be free of their hefty salaries.
Meanwhile, Wolverhampton Wanderers must decide whether or not to use the 30 million euro buyout clause included in the loan deal that brought Francisco Trincao to the club last summer.
Alex Collado, a winger, and goalkeeper Inaki Pena, a goalkeeper, were both loaned out to Granada and Galatasaray, respectively, and both left in January, however the latter's deal with Galatasaray did not include a buyout option.
