Following Real Madrid's stunning Champions League quarter-final victory over Chelsea, Vinicius Junior complimented Reece James.

Mason Mount, Antonio Rudiger, and Timo Werner scored to put Thomas Tuchel's team in the last four.

However, a late goal from Rodrygo forced extra time, where Karim Benzema scored the game-winning goal to send Madrid through on an aggregate score of 5-4.

After receiving an early yellow card, James held Vinicius at bay until the Brazilian was finally able to set up Benzema for the game-winning goal.

After James praised Chelsea fans for their support, Vinicius rushed to social media on Wednesday to compliment him on his performance.

'It's an emotional game. We gave everything we had the day before. "Everything isn't always enough in life," James tweeted.

"Thank you very much for all of your help!"

"Great game, buddy," Vinicius Jr said. "Best of luck."

He wasn't the only Real Madrid player to praise James' performance during the game.

After the final whistle, Benzema dashed down the tunnel to ask James for his shirt as the England international walked down the tunnel.

Rio Ferdinand, a former Manchester United defender, hailed both James and Vinicius after the game.

Ferdinand told BT Sport that "Reece James was all over Vinicius, one of the most in-form wingers in the world."

"And he set up the winner when he was away from Vinicius."

Real Madrid has advanced to the final four, where they will meet either Manchester City or Atletico Madrid, their fierce rivals.

Pep Guardiola's team leads Atletico Madrid 1-0 going into Wednesday's second game at the Wanda Metropolitano.
