The issue of rampant power outages "Dumsor" is a problem most Ghanaians are familiar with, though the issue was solved during the latter part of 2016, the current situation proves otherwise. Together with some parts of Ghana, Accra has seen regular power outages, but the spokespersons from the ministry of energy insist the situation can not be described as "Dumsor". Dumsor is a Ghanaian term, meaning off-on, as in light on and light off.

During an ongoing meet the press session at the Ministry of Information to address national issues, the Minister of Energy, Mathew Opoku Prempeh, and his officers from the ministry took their turn to address issues happening in their sector, Just as they took their turn, the light went off, and came back after a few minutes.

Interestingly, the light was restored immediately Mr. Kwasi Obeng-Fosu from the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry of Energy took to the podium to explain why the lights went off.

The Minister jokingly said this was a “Baptism of fire”, stressing that the light was out as a result of some of the technical challenges which are currently being worked on.

He explained that there was a power trip at the Achimota Bulk Supply Point because one of the substations was down and continued to assure the public that workers were on site working to address the challenges and restore power to all affected areas.
