The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has approved Chief Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah's direction for trial court judges to rigidly follow the age-old practise of calling senior attorneys' cases first.

The Chief Justice said that adhering to such a practise allows junior attorneys to learn from their elders, but it has been marred by differing viewpoints and opposition.

However, GBA stated in a statement that the order is also a decision of the General Legal Council (GLC).

It emphasised that the directive provides a unique and distinctive opportunity for young attorneys at the Bar to benefit from their elders' extensive expertise and advocacy abilities.

The bar association also stated that the order will benefit those who employ attorneys since the practise allows them to practise law unrestrictedly.

The National President, Yaw Acheampong Boafo, and the General Secretary, Kwaku Gyau Baffour, both signed the statement.

As a result, all attorneys practising in Ghana's courts have been advised to actively assist with trial judges in sustaining this age-old custom.
