Erik Ten Hag is now 52 years old. He has become one of Europe’s sought-after coaches due to his tactics, and the flair he brings to any team he coaches. Not forgetting he wins trophies and is underrated to some extent. Even with teams he did not bring silverware he changed their fortunes , made them ambitious.
After promoting Go Ahead Eagles, now one of the established sides in the Dutch League, he then went on to coach Bayern Munich II. Then went on to coach FC Utrecht qualifying them for the Europa League qualifiers in the process.
At Ajax he has achieved greatness, although he did not lead them to win the most famous coveted trophy in the world the Uefa Champions League, he changed the fortunes of the club. Known for his good rebuilding skills, he makes good signings, and each time Ajax sells a player he replaces the player with ease.
He adopted the 4-3-3 formation and it has worked like magic. Signing Sebastien Haller from Westham. He has made Haller a dream striker any team will want to have. Haller’s time at Westham was not great. Although the Hammer fans will always remember him for his famous bicycle goal in the Premier League. Tadic is another player who was brought from the Premier League and is now performing well.
One can say the Dutch league in quote is like a “farmers league”. People want to see him go to the Premier League to test his skills. But a great coach is a great coach. Unless the fundamentals or hierarchy is not right at a club, the coach will fail no matter his reputation.
The hierarchy at Manchester United the Glazers, known for going for the best coaches in the game, should allow Erik to make decisions and not interfere with his policies.
It is clear some players need to go the likes of Juan Mata, Phil Jones, and a host of others need to be sold. It will be a slow process of rebuilding the squad but success will come. The egos of the so-called big-name players will be tested by Ten Hag. One of the policies he should adopt is if you play well you stay put in the starting eleven. If you don’t play well you become a bench player. Manchester United is in dire need of a coach to bring some form of stability. He declared his love for the style of play Manchester City play. One can assume he wants to compete with the best coaches in the Premier League to test his skills.
The likes of Sancho, Rashford, Ronaldo, and Fernandes will need to step up and approach games with more seriousness and passion. The thing about the Manchester United team is there is quality, but week in and week out they play like there is no chemistry between them.
The thing about Erik is he will ensure there is chemistry and passion and he will bring back the missing jigsaw in what is missing in the side. The team needs a striker who can score 25-30 goals a season. He can look at the likes of Benfica striker Darwin, or even decide to bring an unknown striker from South America. In terms of players he can get in the Premier League well, the big question is will rivals sell players. Kane is an option, a proven goal scorer in the league. He is of world-class standard. Another area Erik can look at strengthening is the midfield and defense. He can bring in an attacking midfielder as well as a defensive midfielder.
He can even decide to poach some key men from the Ajax team and bring them to the premier league. With the likes of Dusan Tadic, Haller or even a player like Antony won’t be bad at all.
