In a shootout Wednesday night, a Police Inspector on night watch duty at Akuapem Larteh crossroads in Akropong was praised for defeating three armed thieves.

At about 1:00 a.m., Inspector Albert Kuntu Blankson, who was on night duty near the Yokwa gas filling station at Larteh-junction, was attacked by three suspected armed bandits who attempted to plunder the gas filling station.

The police officer was shot by one of the armed thieves, but he was able to find cover, assume a firing position, and return fire.

The other robbers were forced to flee after one of them was shot.

The police officer requested reinforcements, and the Divisional Crime Officer, DSP John Agyuah, led a team of four officers to the crime scene.

When the squad arrived, they were greeted by Inspector Albert Kuntu Blankson, who stood at the filling station's entrance and pointed out the suspect, who was lying 10 metres away.

A wound on his right upper waist was discovered during an examination of his body. He was quickly questioned and revealed his name to be Ernest Antwi, 28, of Asante-Mampong. Maxwell and Kwame were found to be his collaborators, according to him.

The police squad searched the area but were unable to locate the conspirators.

Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital received the injured robber.

The suspects arrived at Asenema-Akuapem on Sunday in a DV black private car for surveillance before embarking on the robbery operation at Lartey junction, according to Starr News.
