Following the arrival of Xavi, alot of amazing signings have been made for the club and some players have been sold as well even their club legend Lionel Messi was not spared.
Jong’s recent exploits in front of goal have earned him cult status at Camp Nou, with the forward recently starring in the win over Levante with a late goal.
With six goals in 16 matches, with an average of a goal per 96 minutes, many believe de Jong has exceeded expectations at Barça. And in light of such success, multiple news outlets in Spain have recently claimed that the club are keen on extending his loan spell in the summer.
However, a recent report from journalist Ferran Correas has refuted such claims, suggesting Barcelona have no intention to keep hold of the Dutchman beyond the summer.
Formerly of Borussia Monchengladbach, de Jong joined Barcelona last summer in a season-long deal. Correas argues the forward was brought in to offer depth in the midst of a dismal year, with the Catalans notably losing Lionel Messi in the summer.
de Jong’s relationship with the previous coach Ronald Koeman had also played a key role in facilitating the move from Sevilla.
But the 31-year-old’s future at Barça appears to be uncertain despite Xavi’s satisfaction with his late cameos throughout the campaign so far. Luuk’s loan deal expires at the end of the season. Correas believes Barcelona will make no effort to extend his deal for another year.
The club already have a surplus of forwards and do not wish to stack their goalscoring unit, amid reports linking Robert Lewandowski to a potential move to Camp Nou.
Barcelona wish to extend Luuk’s contract, the operation could get trickier, as the player’s current deal at Sevilla expires at the end of next season.
Los Nervionenses won’t be too keen on allowing the player to leave for free in 2023 and are even expected to extend his contract at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in an attempt to gain a sizable sum from the sale of the Dutchman this summer
