The Supreme Court claims that its decision to prevent embattled Assin North MP James Gyakye Quyason from performing his parliamentary responsibilities is in Ghanaians' best interests.

If James Gyakye Quayson is permitted to continue serving as a member of Parliament, the Supreme Court claims it will be "failing in its unique mandate and obligation to the Ghanaian people to maintain and safeguard the constitution."

It claims that failure will jeopardise the sanctity of Ghana's constitution and democracy.

This was one of the grounds given by the court in its authentic and certified copy of the ruling.

"We further believe that in failing to maintain and safeguard the constitution, this court will be neglecting its only mission and obligation to the Ghanaian people."
