The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has started "Operation Prevent Fires, Save Lives and Property" to better safeguard the general public throughout the Easter celebrations and beyond.

Osafo Affum, the campaign's head of public relations, said in a statement that the effort aims to avoid fire breakouts and keep the number of fires in the country to a bare minimum before, during, and after the Easter Season.

ACFO 1 Osafo-Affum identified the following actions to help the Service accomplish its goal:

In Residential Communities, Churches and Convention Centers, Mosques, Market Places, Public Event Centers, Restaurants, Lorry Parks, and other locations, community fire education programmes have been stepped up to increase sensitization and awareness.

Markets and other gathering areas have task forces in place to examine and enforce safety standards.

Sensitization programmes for public safety have been established at truck stops, churches, mosques, and marketplaces.

Surveillance and patrols at night are to be conducted around Public Facilities, Strategic Installations, and Markets.

All fire appliances have been prepared to respond to any type of emergency.

All faulty appliances must be fixed as soon as possible and commissioned for emergency use.

All personnel have been placed on high alert in order to respond quickly in the event of an emergency.

There have been contingencies put in place.
