A Jersey court has blocked $7 billion (£5.4 billion) in assets belonging to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.

Jersey Police examined properties suspected of being related to Mr Abramovich's business interests on the island on Tuesday, according to the Jersey Law Officers' Department

The billionaire has been sanctioned by the United Kingdom as a result of Russia's war in Ukraine.

Jersey, a Channel Island, follows UK policy and applies the same punishments on the same individuals.

"On 12 April, the Royal Court issued a formal freezing order, known as a saisie judiciaire, over assets valued in excess of US$7 billion that are suspected to be linked to Mr Abramovich and are either located in Jersey or owned by Jersey incorporated entities," according to the Jersey Law Officers' Department.
