The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Tema Regional Command has reported an increase in domestic fire outbreaks in the Tema Region over the last two years.
The GNFS Tema Regional Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer I (ACFOI), Madam Doris Lamptey, ascribed the major reasons to activity in the kitchen and faulty wiring of electrical equipment.
"Most of the houses have worn out wires, and some do not have correct wiring, which causes fires," ACFOI Lamptey told the Ghana News Agency in a Tema interview.
She voiced alarm about the recent spate of house fires, noting that the majority of them were caused by avoidable human mistake.
She provided data to back up her claims, stating that there were 510 fires in all.
