‘Almost certain’: Paul Merson gives prediction concerning Liverpool vs Manchester City
Last week, Liverpool and Manchester City battled it out in a Premier League classic at Eastlands.
Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool held their Premier League title rivals to a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium.
And, fortunately for the neutral, both teams do it all again on Saturday evening at Wembley.
Liverpool will face Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in an FA Cup semi-final tomorrow.
Both teams advanced to the Champions League semi-finals in midweek, with the Reds defeating Benfica and City defeating Atletico Madrid.
"He's a really nice person" | Paul Lambert discusses meeting Ange and dealing with Celtic derby pressure.
The Anfield club had a larger cushion from the first leg, so Klopp had the upper hand of resting some big-name players like Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Fabinho in midweek, though the first two came on as substitutes.
City, on the other hand, only had a one-goal lead, and Guardiola was forced to name his strongest XI away to Atleti.
In an interview with Sportskeeda, Merson predicted the following about tomorrow's FA Cup match: "To be fair, City had a tough game against Atletico Madrid. They had to travel this week, and it was also a very physical game. Liverpool rested Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Fabinho in the Champions League and are expected to score this weekend. Manchester City will defeat Liverpool 1-2."
Is he correct?
He was, after all, last week.
Merson predicted a 2-2 draw between Liverpool and City last Sunday, so his prediction here should be taken seriously.
And, to be honest, it has some merit.
There's no doubt that Liverpool has younger players available, but only time will tell how significant that advantage is.
If Klopp's team wins, they will face either Chelsea or Crystal Palace in the final of the competition, bringing them one step closer to completing a quadruple.
