MAHAMA SATS SUPREME COURT RULING AGAINST ASSIN NORTH MP AS TRAVESTY

Former President John Mahama has called the Supreme Court's decision barring James Gyakye Qayson, the Assin North MP, from fulfilling Parliamentary responsibilities, a distortion of justice.

Mr Mahama claimed the Apex Court's decision is a "deliberate demonstration of disdain for the country's democracy" in a Facebook post.

Mr Gyakye Quayson can no longer undertake Parliamentary responsibilities, according to a majority ruling issued by the Supreme Court on Wednesday, April 13.

This is until the Supreme Court decides on the substantive case brought against him, but Mr. Mahama questioned the constitutionality of the order, given that a substantive challenge on the legitimacy of the Assin North MP is pending before the Supreme Court.

As a result, he believes the substantive matter before the Apex Court would be dismissed.
