Yetunde Folorunsho, a housewife from Kwara State, committed suicide as a result of her husband's claimed desire to take a second wife.
On Friday, residents of the town in Ilorin, the state capital, told journalists that the woman poisoned herself after her husband announced his desire to marry a second wife.
She went to a nearby shop and bought a powdery substance she assumed was Sniper, which she swallowed when no one was present to save her.
The deceased was a University of Ilorin Linguistics graduate.
Ajayi Okasanmi, a spokesman for the state police command, confirmed the occurrence to journalists in Ilorin, saying the lady who reportedly supplied the powder to the deceased had been detained.
He went on to say that the operatives had started looking into the event.
"Police detained the guy who supplied the woman the chemical with which she murdered herself," Okasanmi said. Despite her release, we might still invite her if there was a compelling reason.
"We're doing a comprehensive investigation into the issue and won't leave any evidence that could aid our investigation."
