At least eight herdersmen have been slain in retaliatory assaults on Zakole, a herder village in the Northern region's Yendi Municipality. The attacks come after the death of Jacob Koila, a Dagbon State Senior High School teacher, in an armed robbery incident near Zagban on the Yendi-Zabzugu route.

Angry by the teacher's death, some residents rallied and went on a killing spree, killing at least eight others.

GBC News has learned from sources in Yendi that the area's herders are fearful and have requested security. The Northern Regional Police Command has acknowledged the attacks and stated that officers are being dispatched to the area to restore law and order.
