On Lake Volta, seven people died in a boat accident.
A boat capsized on the Late Volta in the Kwahu North area of the Eastern Region, killing seven people.
DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, the region's police public relations officer, said the incident happened at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2022.
A passenger boat carrying 20 people from Dzemeni to Havorkope on the Dwarf Island overturned midday on the Volta Lake after being trapped in a severe storm.
Seven people drowned, five females and two males between the ages of 31 and 60.
The bodies of the victims are being held at a private mortuary on the island while police investigate.
Karrah Joseph Eric, the District National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) operations officer, reported that 13 additional people onboard the boat were recovered after the boat owners conducted a search and rescue operation.
"The search began last night and hasn't ended yet," he added, adding that "because to the nature of the river, it's conceivable that some additional passengers on board have drifted to other regions."
