Martin Braithwaite made a fantastic start to the season, scoring a brace and providing an assist in Barcelona's 4-2 victory over Real Sociedad at the Camp Nou in LaLiga Santander.

Braithwaite played in the next two games while Ronald Koeman was still in command, until a knee cartilage injury put an end to his season.

There have been substantial changes at Barcelona during his four months away. In the January transfer window, Xavi Hernandez succeeded Koeman as head coach, and three strikers were added, leaving Braithwaite out of the starting XI.

Braithwaite has only played 24 minutes in two games since returning from injury in January. Despite Xavi's admiration for Braithwaite's professionalism, it's evident that the 30-year-old isn't in his plans, with other players in Barcelona's pecking order ahead of him.

Barcelona activated Braithwaite's 18 million euro release clause in February 2020 and signed him to a four-and-a-half-year contract.

Barcelona is hoping to make a profit on Braithwaite's sale this summer, while the player has yet to comment on his future plans.

Braithwaite understands he needs to earn game time somewhere before the World Cup in Qatar in November if he wants to represent Denmark on the biggest stage in sport.
