Football players go through the grind and sweat, before appearing on the big stage. The journey is not easy. My proposal to FIFA simply is to request the following changes to football:
Considering football is a 90-minute game, the toll it takes on a footballer is tremendous. Imagine playing 90 minutes for almost 38 to 55 games a season. Fatigue will definitely set in, you will feel lethargic and worn out.
To be honest, if football matches are reduced to 60 minutes it will help. That is 30 minutes for each half it will go a long way in improving player performance for the duration of a long season. Let us look at the case of Christian Eriksen, who had a poor season in the 2020/2021 season. He then goes to play in the Euro 2020 and then collapses on the pitch. It is basic stuff the more you do strenuous activities for a long period of time without enough rest, you are bound to get a health problem, or bound to risk injury if care is not taken.
Sadly but true Eriksen is not the only footballer to collapse on the field of play. Marc Vivien-Foe collapsed and died, Fabrice Muamba collapsed but he survived miraculously.
The notion that footballers are paid huge salaries so they need to play 55games or more is totally rubbish. Going forward 60 minutes of football action, will see a decrease in injuries, decrease in time-wasting, and will help the game flow. Footballers are human beings, not robots, and even robots go through wear and tear after a while.
The suggestion by one of football law-making bodies that is the International Football Association Board(IFAB) suggested that if football is to be reduced to 60 minutes it will help the game. They also went on to say that anytime there is a stoppage in play, the time will be stopped. This suggestion makes sense because it will completely rule out time-wasting, and players feigning injuries in particular.
Also typical of 90-minute matches players tend to relax when they score a goal. So if 60 minutes is enforced, a team that scores a goal will know that they need to put in more effort to score another and another and another. The reason has been the time is limited and the time been limited is not a negative thing. It just goes to show that the pressure to perform will be much greater than ever.
Football coaches will be under pressure to provide more attention to their player's needs and help them develop massively.
Another argument to put out is the matches played in an entire season, playing over 38 matches is cumbersome, tiring, and demanding. The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), should look at reducing the number of teams that compete in the professional league at the club level. Maybe a different approach can be the adoption of every league at the club level having only 20 teams. With 10 teams in one group, and the other in another group. With teams facing each other home and away, and the team that tops her league in both groups play a one-off game to decide the overall winner of the league. With regards to domestic cup competitions, it should be abolished. European competitions may still be played, so that money can be made from it. I mean who doesn't like to watch clubs from different countries compete against each other. The normal procedure for European competitions may still hold whereby clubs are put into groups of eight, with four teams in each group. Then the round 16, quarter, semi, and then final.
