GHANAIAN POLITICIANS WHO ATTENDED OXFORD UNIVERSITY

Oxford university is the oldest English University. There is evidence of teaching as early as 1096. The university is a Collegiate research university which admit brilliant students. Admissions to Oxford University are very competitive and so to be admitted shows that you are one smart, intelligent person in academia.

 

Oxford university is the dream and wish of most students who want to climb the tertiary ladder of education. There are some few Ghanaian politician who were fortunate to have their tertiary education in one of the most prestigious universities in the world. These politicians at a certain point in their life time has played very important role in the governance, Independence and democracy of the nation.

 

They have made Ghana who it is today through the knowledge, experience and persistent Spirit.

 

Here are 4 Ghanaian politicians who attended Oxford University:

 

Kofi Abrefa Busia

 

Kofi Abrefa Busia was a political leader and prime Minister from 1969-1972. He was also a member of parliament in 1974. Kofi Abrefa Busia went Oxford university in 1942.

 

 

Edward Akufo-Addo

 

Edward Akufo-Addo is one of the big six. He was part of the UGCC. The UGCC was the only political party at the time who was fighting for Ghana's freedom while we were still colonized by the British. Edward Akufo-Addo was a lawyer too and became Ghana's Chief justice from 1966- 19970. He was the President of the republic of Ghana from 1970-1972. He studied mathematics, politics and philosophy in Oxford university and graduated with honours in Politics and philosophy in 1933. He is the father of President Nana Akufo-Addo.

 

 

Kwamena Ahwoi

 

Professor Kwamena Ahwoi was the minister for local government and rural development from 1990-2001 under the government of Jerry John Rawlings. He was also a minister for foriegn affairs in 1997. He resigned as a director for research for the NDC in 2005. He had his Bachelor in civil law in 1975 at Oxford university.

 

 

Nana Akufo-Addo

 

President Nana Akufo-Addo is the incumbent President of Ghana. President Akufo Addo has served as an Attorney general (2001-2003), minister of foriegn affairs( 2003-2007) and member of parliament for Akyim Abuakwa south ( 2005-2009). He began to study philosophy and politics in Oxford University in 1962 but left within a short period

 

 

John Agyekum Kuffor

 

John Agyekum Kuffor is the first flag bearer of one of Ghana's largest political party when Ghana adapted the democratic type of governance. He became the president of the republic of Ghana from 2001-2009. Before he became president, he was the member of parliament for Atwinaa Nwabia from 1969-1981. John obtained his master's in Politics, Philosophy and economics in 1964 at Oxford university.
