Real Madrid have identified Chelsea defender Reece James as a possible summer transfer target (Sunday Mirror via The Express).

In the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals at the Santiago Bernabeu, the Blues defender pleased Carlo Ancelotti and his club.

According to the latest reports, James is one of England's emerging stars who has also built a name for himself in Europe.

Chelsea's Reece James is a valuable asset.

Frank Lampard gave James his Blues debut in the 2019-20 season after he progressed through the Chelsea junior system. The right-back seized the chance with both hands. Despite starting up as a backup to club captain Cesar Azpilicueta, James has earned a spot in the starting lineup.

James has also been a crucial player under Thomas Tuchel, and despite a couple of injuries this season, he has played in 30 games for them. This season, he has a total of six goals and seven assists for the Blues.

Why could James be a good fit for Real Madrid?

James is only 22 years old, yet he has already established himself as a first-team player. If he continues to improve his whole game, his ceiling might be very high.

Madrid presently has Dani Carvajal, a 30-year-old right-back, as their starting right-back. Makeshift defender Lucas Vazquez is their backup option, which means Madrid will need to sign a new right-back.

James excels on both offence and defence and possesses all of the necessary qualities to reach the top of the game. Real Madrid can provide a fantastic platform for a player to compare his abilities to the best in a league outside of England.

In the Champions League, Real Madrid defeated Chelsea 5-4 on aggregate.

In the Champions League quarterfinals, Real Madrid defeated Chelsea 5-4 on aggregate.

Los Blancos won the first leg 3-1 at Stamford Bridge, thanks to a hat-trick from Karim Benzema. In that encounter, Kai Havertz scored the only goal for the Blues.

Tuchel's team overcame Madrid 3-2 in extra time in the reverse encounter, but lost on aggregate by one goal.

James was crucial in that match, both in terms of limiting the dangerous Vinicius Jr. and in terms of giving breadth and support in attack.
