2021/22 Ghana Premier League Week 25: Match Preview – Hearts of Oak vs Elmina Sharks
Hearts of Oak will be bidding to return to winning ways in the Ghana Premier League when they welcome basement side Elmina Sharks to Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Phobians are currently sixth in the table, three points behind fourth-placed Great Olympics while Elmina Sharks sit bottom, seven points behind 15th-placed Eleven Wonders.
Hearts of Oak’s hopes of winning the title this season suffered a huge blow last weekend when they lost 1-0 at sworn rivals Asante Kotoko, with the result leaving them 16 points behind the Porcupine Warriors who occupy the first position.
They appear to have abandoned the league in favour of the MTN FA Cup. They advanced to the semi-finals in midweek after recording a 1-0 win over second-tier side Skyy FC in Accra.
The Phobians are unbeaten in their last five league games against Elmina Sharks, including a 1-0 victory earlier this season at Nduom Sports Complex, with a stunning strike by Gladson Awako deciding what was a close match, and they beat Sharks 2-0 in Accra on their way to being crowned champions last season.
As previously stated, Sharks are bottom of the table with 18 points, but they have not been cut adrift at this stage of the season and can still fight their way out of relegation.
They won 1-0 over King Faisal last weekend, giving them six points in their last three league games. However, they are still seven points from safety, so it will take something special to get them out of the relegation zone.
