According to rumours, Liverpool are ready to back Jurgen Klopp in the summer transfer season by bringing Barcelona midfielder Gavi to Anfield. The Spaniard made his first appearance for Ronald Koeman this season in a 2-1 La Liga victory over Getafe in August, drawing similarities to renowned former Barcelona midfielder Xavi, who is now his manager at the Camp Nou.
Gavi has been in and out of the lineup throughout his debut season, starting 20 times in La Liga and making five more starts in European tournaments.
He has two goals and five assists in the league this season for Barcelona, and his performance has earned him six senior Spain caps since September 2021. Liverpool have been extensively linked with a move for the Barcelona youngster, with reports suggesting they might take advantage of the Catalan giants' recent financial troubles.
Gavi reportedly turned down a new contract offer from Barcelona at the end of last month, but Liverpool have 'no plans to sign him' in the summer, according to another report.
Despite this, the Spanish publication Nacional claims that Liverpool manager Klopp has grown "obsessed" with Gavi and has "already asked the board to begin talks" about a transfer for the player. Klopp has instructed Liverpool to 'prepare' a €50 million offer, which would satisfy the youngster's release clause at the Camp Nou, which runs out in 2023.
Joan Laporta and the Barcelona leadership are still 'working feverishly to achieve an agreement to extend his contract,' since they want him to be an important part of their future plans.
Gavi has stated that he will only renew his contract if his income is increased significantly, and that he "will have no problem packing his bags" if an appropriate offer from Barcelona is not good. Liverpool is said to be'more serious' about Gavi than Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid, all of which have been connected with him.
Klopp tells Gavi that the Reds are'ready to pay the clause if he decides to leave' as he 'waits patiently and crosses his fingers.'
Xavi is "sure" that they can persuade him to stay in Spain, and Barcelona has the benefit of being able to "offer him continuity, as well as a really ambitious project.
