Jurgen Klopp Applauds Sadio Mane's Performance Against Manchester City
Jurgen Klopp praised Sadio Mane's performance after the forward scored a game-winning brace to help Liverpool defeat Manchester City and advance to the FA Cup final.
Since the signing of Luis Diaz in January, the Senegalese has primarily been used as a striker, scoring eight goals since his return from the Africa Cup of Nations. With 18 goals in all competitions, the 30-year-old now has four goals against Manchester City this season.
He then volleyed home Liverpool's second on the stroke of halftime, taking advantage of a goalkeeping error to double the Reds' lead after Ibrahima Konate's opener. And there was one aspect of his performance in particular that Klopp admired his performance when speaking to reporters after the final whistle.
"He (Mane) had a fantastic game. "He was the first player to initiate the press, so it was intense for him as well," he explained. "He scored, and I'm thrilled. " I don't like the goalie, and he's been chastised for it. It's not about that because it's similar to Ederson's situation from a week ago. These things happen, and Ali could be one of them. It's all about his forward motion and desire to get there. "The other was obviously proper football until the final pass with the little chip and the volley," he said. It was a fantastic goal."
Klopp made seven changes for the win over Manchester City, with Mane one of several players recalled to the starting lineup alongside Fabinho. The midfielder had a poor game by his standards last weekend at the Etihad but was back to his best at Wembley on Saturday.
That fact was not lost on the Reds manager as he reflected on his team's hectic schedule, pointing out how the Brazilian's performance had highlighted how his squad benefits from rotation at the business end of the season.
"Top performance, Thiago, but the entire midfield, that was football!" he exclaimed. "Wow, Naby. When you compare the two games at City and today, you can see how important it is to rest different players at different times. " They don't always deliver, and because we know them so well, we assume it's due to a physical reason, so we try to figure out what it is. He didn't play in the middle of the week, but he could play today. It provided a nice rhythm in the midfield today. a great deal of top class individual performances.
"At City, I thought we were slightly lucky, even more fortunate than City, to get a point there." We weren't 100 percent ourselves, of course, because of City's quality, but we had things to do on our own, and we stepped up today." We played much better than we did against City, and we deserved to win."
He went on: "There is always a difference" (making changes). Most of the time, it works in our favor. "It was much needed." We have 10 games left, which is already an insane number, and we may qualify for an 11th game, which will also be difficult. It's extremely difficult, but it's pleasant. It's our predicament." We must make changes as long as we have the ability to make changes, we have to make changes and use the full quality of the squad and the individual as well. It's extremely difficult to play on a Wednesday, then a Saturday, then a Tuesday and a Sunday. We'll be back on Wednesday. "bam, bam, bam" We need to find line-ups and formations that allow us to be as recovered as possible in each game, but we also need as much rhythm as possible. That's the dream. "As long as the players are fit, it's about making decisions both before and during the game." The boys' decision-making must be at the top of their game, and we must also be at the top of our game."
