Before his hat-trick display, Cristiano Ronaldo performs a ritual as he touches every teammate in the tunnel.

After witnessing footage of Cristiano Ronaldo's unusual pre-match ritual, Manchester United fans are clamoring for him to be named captain.

The 37-year-old was the star of the show at Old Trafford on Saturday, scoring a hat-trick in a 3-2 victory over Norwich.

Prior to the 3-2 win over Norwich, Cristiano Ronaldo established eye contact with each of his teammates in the tunnel.

After witnessing Ronaldo's pre-game ritual, fans complimented his leadership qualities.

And it's probable that his pre-match theatrics played a role.

In the tunnel, Ronaldo was seen making eye contact with each of his teammates.

Ronaldo worked his way down the starting XI, starting with skipper Harry Maguire at the front.

Prior to kick-off, he could be seen caressing his teammates on the shoulders or chest and delivering words of encouragement.

"Ronaldo being captain without actually being captain, Maguire is a phony," said another.

"Just give this man the armband ffs, Ronnie is the only positive from this season," a third added.

The following comment was made by this fan: "Hand over the armband to him. I'm not even speaking with the club; I'm speaking with Maguire.... Simply hand it on to him."

"Little things like that are why he should be captain," one said.

"Leadership doesn't always require a captain band," one responded.

"Oh Captain, My Captain..." said another simply.

Ronaldo's hat-trick against Norwich was his second treble in three Premier League games, bringing his season total to 21 goals.

His brilliant performance against the Canaries earned him a cool £850,000.

A set of incentives were included in the deal when Ronaldo returned to United in the summer.

Ronaldo earned two of them thanks to his heroics: the first was a £750k bonus for hitting 20 goals, and the second was a £100k bonus for his hat-trick strike.

After achieving his first goal total, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner will continue to earn an extra £100,000 for each additional goal he scores, as he did yesterday.
