Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President, has handed victims of the Zakoli attack in Yendi Municipality with a financial donation of GHS60,000.

On Sunday (April 17, 2022), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia presented the donation to the Community Chief, Naa Abukari Andani, for distribution to the deceased families and those suffering from varying degrees of gunshot injuries at the Yendi government hospital.

Last Wednesday, unknown gunmen suspected of being Konkombas raided Zakoli and killed eight nomadic herders.

It's unknown what prompted the incident, although some have linked it to a previous armed robbery attack on a SHS teacher on the Yendi-Zabzugu route, which was thought to be carried out by a Konkomba.

During the attacks, four more persons were hurt. Several homes and properties, including food crops and motorcycles, were entirely burned.

Each of the deceased persons' family received five thousand cedis (GHS5,000), totaling GHS40,000, to help with funeral ceremonies.

Each of the injured people has also been given GHS5,000 to help with medical expenses and recovery.

Furthermore, the Vice President stated that the government will send assistance materials this week to assist the people in overcoming their challenges.
