Ian Wright honors Chelsea FC star after FA Cup win over Crystal Palace

Ian Wright singled out Ruben Loftus-Cheek after the midfielder came off the bench to assist in the scoring.

Chelsea FC defeated Crystal Palace 2-0 in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley Stadium.

Loftus-Cheek came on in the 26th minute to replace the injured Mateo Kovacic in north London, and the 26-year-old helped the Blues secure their place in the final by scoring the opening goal for the south west Londoners.

After a scoreless first half, Loftus-Cheek scored in the 65th minute to put Thomas Tuchel's men ahead.

Mason Mount, who has three goals in three games for the Blues, then sealed the victory with an accurate finish.

Loftus-first-team Cheek's opportunities at Stamford Bridge have been limited this season, with the midfielder starting just nine Premier League games.

Arsenal and England legend Wright, on the other hand, was impressed by what he saw from the midfielder at Wembley on Sunday afternoon and believes he is due a regular run in the team as a result of his performance.

Wright said of Loftus-Cheek after the game on ITV Sport: "If he can get a run in the team... you've got World Cup winners, a lot of experience, and winners in there."

"He came through the academy and he's still there, trying to make a name for himself at Chelsea." He entered the game today and changed the game for Chelsea. That's exactly what he's capable of. Palace, on the other hand, had some chances."

Loftus-Cheek, who has three assists in all competitions this season, admitted that his recent injury struggles have made it a "tough road."

"[The goal] is long overdue!" Loftus-Cheek explained to ITV Sport. "It's been a difficult road with injuries and going on loan to regain my form, but I've always believed in myself and wanted to play for Chelsea." "I'm happy because I've played a lot this season." I was just thinking about hitting it, I think it took a little deflection but I’ll take it!

I needed to be prepared to step in. "I just wanted to bring some energy because it looked a little slow in the first half." My mental fortitude in the face of all the injuries is the reason I'm still here. I still believed in myself and told myself for many years that my time would come.

"It's as simple as that. We want them back." The League Cup final was a fantastic game that could have gone either way."

Chelsea FC will face Liverpool FC, who defeated Manchester City on Saturday, in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, May 14.
