Documents and Audio clips have revealed that The Royal Spanish Federation (RFEF) agreed with the company Kosmos, founded by Gerard Piqué to collect a millionaire commission for bringing the Spanish Football Super Cup to Saudi Arabia.
The contract guarantees Pique's company pocketing €6M each year during the edition of Spanish Super Cup which could possibly result to a total of €24M over the years of the contract.
The contract also stipulates that the competition can be cancelled at any moment if the money is not paid to Kosmos in due time.
Gerard Piqué and RFEF president Luis Rubiales had originally proposed the idea of playing the Spanish Super cup 'final four' in the Santiago Bernabeu or the Camp Nou.
One of Rubiales' voice messages sent to Piqué: "Geri! Congrats. And not for your great game yesterday, or your goal. It's past 12, which means that the deal with Saudi Arabia has been signed. Thanks for everything. I'm here for whatever you need. A big hug. Take care."
Piqué to Rubiales during the negotiations: "If it’s a matter of money and Madrid push for receiving €8M, let them have it along with Barça. The other two competitors can be payed €2M and €1M, coming to a total of €19M."
Piqué then continued: "Keep aside €6M for the federation and we can squeeze Saudi Arabia for more money before the federation has anything left. If they don’t agree we can simply tell them that Madrid won’t participate in the competition."
Rubiales to Piqué during the negotiations: "Supercopa at Camp Nou before Riyadh? I'm going to see this with Madrid. We say that Camp Nou is the biggest stadium, Barça are the current La Liga and Cup champions... I believe that we have legitimacy."
In August 2019, after the leaks that the Spanish Super Cup was scheduled to be moved to a different format in Saudi Arabia, RFEF president Luis Rubiales was ready to pull out of the deal. Gerard Piqué convinced him to go ahead as planned.
Piqué's leaked audio: "Rubi, I understand your point. But think about it. If everyone sees that you were about to do it, then pull out, they will use it against you. They will say that you're no longer going to Saudi Arabia because you got caught. I would think about it."
Piqué: "It would show that you were never doing anything wrong. You understand? And it's the same people. With the same price, etc, etc. And you can say that you were not wrong."
With the deal for the Super Cup being held in Saudi Arabia, the Spanish football federation has guaranteed a payment of €40m NET every season. Along with this, RFEF president Luis Rubiales' salary has skyrocketed.
