A policeman was arrested after he assaulted and raped his girlfriend. The man allegedly accused his girlfriend of cheating before taking her on a wide ride between both their places. He started beating her at her home then took her to his home where he beat her then he returned her to her home where he beat her and then raped her.
"He drove around with me and we ended up in the bush where he threatened to kill me. I had to beg him to calm down. He beat me until I was bleeding. He also twisted my arm. I have bruises on my forehead, arm and back. After I cleaned up he forced himself on me. He didn't care that I was in pain. After he raped me, he told me he would kill me if I told anyone".
The man's bail hearing was for Wednesday 9 March.
In recent times we are seeing many crimes committed by our police officers. This includes the policeman who shot his ex girlfriend, a nurse at a hospital in Tembisa over domestic matters or the station commander who killed herself after stealing evidence money.
Police officers are appointed to be enforcers and servants of the law. When one becomes a law breaker it is a betrayal to the law one sure to protect and enforce. Should he be convicted for this crime I hope he will receive the worst possible sentence for this treason.
Or better yet perhaps we should have a different law for police and citizens. Police should be sentenced to stiffer sentences for the same crime committed by a normal citizen.
This of course would not apply where a police officer accidentally commits a crime in the performance of his or her duties i.e if a police officer accidentally runs over a pedestrian while in pursuit of a hijacked car or a police officer accidentally shooting a civilian while in a shootout with armed thugs.
