Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Ghana's Minister of Energy, has stated that raising tariffs for the Electricity Company of Ghana is not a possibility at this time.
Rather, he said, the corporation was being urged to reduce its losses and put in place the required processes to properly collect money for what it had previously provided before considering increases.
"I can tell you that we will fight proposals for higher tariffs until we have determined our losses." The more we look for our losses, the better we'll be able to determine if we need to or must raise tariffs. But first, if you're losing so much money, how are you going to persuade me to let you raise tariffs?
