Some suspected robbers stormed a church and robbed members of their money, mobile handsets and other valuables at Afrancho in AtwimaNwabiagya in Ashanti.
The incident which took place on the Easter Saturday, at the Heaven Embassy Chapel International, left five of the members seriously wounded as the suspects were said to have fired gunshots indiscriminately.
Eye witnesses told the Ghanaian Times that the members were worshipping when they were attacked at about 7:30pm.
According to them, the suspects ordered everyone to lay on the ground and they (suspects) demanded money, mobile handsets and other valuables.
“They shot sporadically at the worshippers and we had to take cover. Five of the victims including three children suffered gunshot wounds,” the source said.
The suspects, the eye witnesses said, afterwards bolted with a motorcycle belonging to one of the church members, but abandoned the motorcycle few meters away from the church premises
A police source at the Ashanti Regional Police Command confirmed the incident saying investigations had begun.
It also confirmed that the suspects took money, mobile handsets from their victims.
According to the police source three of the victims, including one of the children had been discharged with two still on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
