On Saturday, April 16th, 2022, the Member of Parliament for Bindiru, Hon Abdulai Abanga, travelled to the Binduri District to examine the damage from the recent downpour.
The rainfall damaged about 1,000 structures, including homes, clinics, schools, stores, and religious facilities, among others, leaving many people homeless.
The legislator, who toured several devastated areas with the District NADMO, Coordinator, Daniel Azimbe, and some Assembly Members, regretted the extent of the devastation inflicted by the storm, describing it as an Emergency Situation that requires the whole nation's immediate attention.
He stated that a support station has been established at the District NADMO office to accept gifts such as roofing sheets, wood, cement, food, and other emergency response materials.
Yesterday, Hon Abdulai Abanga, the dynamic MP who doubles as Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, toured the Constituency with the District NADMO Director to assess the level of structures destroyed by the storm last week, which was accompanied by heavy rain and lasted for about 3 hours, leaving houses, schools, mosques, churches, shops, and other structures destroyed and others partially damaged.
However, the storm had an impact on the majority of schools, some of which are listed below.
Primary School of Bulugu
Primary School of Bansi
Primary School of Baking
Primary School Noryine
JHS Bazua M/A, Barabogo
Kindergarten Zawse
Tansia Primary School
Tambiigu Junior High School
The need for assistance is higher now.
Currently, around ten basic schools in Binduri have roof damage that must be repaired before school reopens.
The storm, also severely impacted most residences in the Constituency as well as market squares.
Whereas trees that serve as a shield and their fruits as sustenance to spare mankind from malnutrition, hunger, and high wind were removed, causing their fruits to fall dramatically.
During interactions with some of the victims, they described the situation as horrifying and alarming since they are in a condition of desperation.
While speaking, several stated that they had no choice but to sleep in the cold weather without a roof with their family since there was/is no place to flee or go because they are concerned about the position they are in today and how to reconstruct their homes that were devastated by the storm.
The situation in the impacted communities is dreadful. We appeal to the government, philanthropists, stakeholders, non-governmental organizations, and others to come to the rescue of these individuals, since they have nowhere to sleep and some food, clothing, and mattresses have been destroyed.
