Spanish-born Ghanaian forward Inaki Williams has gone six years without missing a LaLiga match, which is absolutely remarkable.
Williams accomplished the feat on Sunday as he featured in Athletic Bilbao’s 2-0 loss to Celta Vigo.
Williams last didn’t play in a LaLiga game for Bilbao in April 2016 against Malaga due to a thigh injury.
Williams has appeared in 227 LaLiga games in a row, starting 189 of them.
In October of last year, Williams broke the record for the most consecutive LaLiga matches played, which was previously held by Juanan Larranaga, who appeared in 202 consecutive games.
During this time, Williams has been managed by five different coaches: Ernesto Valverde, Jose Angel Ziganda, Eduardo Berizzo, Gaizka Gartiano, and his current manager Marcelino.
Since his debut in December 2014, Williams has made 333 appearances for Bilbao. During that time, he has scored 74 goals and assisted 44 others.
The 27-year-current old’s contract runs until 2028, which means he could play for Bilbao for a long time.
Williams, born to Ghanaian parents, has only played one senior match for Spain, against Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2016.
Williams has previously stated that he prefers to play for Spain over Ghana, but recent reports indicate that the striker is considering a switch.
