The only reason Manchester United looked a little better in the second half of their 4-0 loss to Liverpool, according to Paul Scholes, was because Jurgen Klopp's side was "bored."Luis Diaz and Mohammed Salah gave Liverpool a comfortable half-time lead at Anfield on Tuesday night, with the Red Devils not putting a glove on them in the first half.
Man United did have a semblance of an attacking threat early in the second half, but goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah put the game out of reach for Ralf Rangnick's side.
Man Utd were "far better" in the first 25 minutes of the second half when Rangnick made a tactical shift, he said after the game."We switched from a back five to a back four," the German explained after the game. The first 25 minutes of the second half were much better, but we didn't score a goal in those 25 minutes. The third goal was on our list of things to avoid doing against Liverpool.""He (Rangnick) is honest, especially in these big games," Scholes stated on Premier League Productions. He's maybe a little too forthright.
"The statistics aren't surprising; Manchester United never put a finger on any of their players at any point." They were free to do as they pleased.
"Don't let the first 20 or 25 minutes of the second half deceive you. It was too easy for Liverpool to be bored. They simply needed a little more desire to step it up again, and they went out and scored anytime they wanted, so don't be deceived. The issue of motivation... United were not up to the task, and it was difficult to accept. They should be ready for any match, whether it's against Liverpool or Watford.
"However, you will require incentive from your coach. You play so many games, and sometimes all you need is a word from your manager, and you think to yourself, "OK, here we go again," and you realize you need to step up and be ready for the task of facing a real football squad.
"They appeared to be without ideas, lost, and unenthusiastic. They appeared to be a collection of players who were flat, although there are a lot of experienced players on that team."
