Around 6,000 understudies of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have been constrained by the University to concede their courses.

In a meeting on Joy FM's Midday News on Wednesday, the University Relations Officer, Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, expressed that the University's activity is in the correct heading.

 

He noticed that the issue of understudies not settling charges has endured throughout the long term; hence, the need to "apply the expenses strategy this year which has been endorsed by the scholastic board and it is required that as an undergrad understudy you should enroll your courses toward the start of the semester and pay 70%."

 

He said that the University has now "given a window from February through March and April" for understudies with overdue debts to pay.

 

As indicated by him, a portion of the understudies have directed their expenses to different roads to create cash.

 

"Various understudies are messing around with the University. For instance, they utilize their school expenses to purchase Uber; others are setting up pastry shops… while others are involving it for wagering, and we have proof," he said.

 

However, a portion of the impacted understudies say they are truly poor, expressing that the bursaries and different grants they had applied for made not taken difference.

 

Thus, they believe that the school should broaden the period.
