Real Madrid center back David Alaba has been one of the team’s most important players, and it is fair to say that they would not have made it to the Champions League semifinals without the inspirational summer signing, who, by the way, cost the team $0.00.

That is the prospect that could be facing Real Madrid. On Wednesday night, Los Blancos traveled to Pamplona to take on the team where Sergio Ramos suffered his career-derailing injury last year.

And after scoring the opener, Alaba went down with an apparent muscular injury just before the first half ended with the score at 2-1 in Madrid’s favor over Osasuna.

With all due respect to his center back partner Eder Militao, Alaba has been Real’s best and most consistent defender this season. As we saw against Barcelona in their first head-to-head meeting of the season, too, the new No. 4 can pop up and score out of nothing.

Alaba has been a leader, vital to the build-up play, and willing to put his body on the line to stop any short. He is an inspirational center back for Real Madrid, with many Madridistas quipping that he plays as if he has been here for years. Who can forget his masterclass against Sevilla over the weekend, in which he urged his teammates to stop celebrating and go for the winning goal? Which they got in the dying minutes!
