Over 6000 students' courses have been deferred at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) due to non-compliance with the school's policies.

These pupils were unable to pay their school fees in full since they were required to pay at least 70%, forcing the school to postpone their classes.

According to school officials, the majority of students who have been postponed for failing to pay part or all of their school fees by the deadline utilize the money to engage in sports betting and other businesses.

Students who have had their courses deferred, according to KNUST management, are primarily individuals who have misused their school funds in sports betting, Uber, and the bakery industry.

The school's administration maintains that there is little they can do about the situation because the kids had a choice before wasting their school fees, and that the school has bills to pay and must continue to operate.

"At the moment, we have around 92 percent of them who have completed the task. While this has been going on for two to three years because we used to think that some people had legitimate problems, so we let them go, and others finished without paying the fees. If we were to tell you the amount of money owed in fees, it would be enormous; we're talking about 65 million cedis for this year."

"It may also interest you to know that the school spends roughly 22 to 24 million cedis each year on energy bills, not including water, Wi-Fi, and other expenses that the university must pay to keep the institution running."

We have several students enjoying scholarship, those having genuine challenges have avenues to approach for help and we have communicated this to them.”
