When the old guards of tennis stars retire, there is going to be a new star emerging. His name Carlos Alcaraz, born in El Parmar a small village in Murica , Spain. He is currently 19 years of age. His career record currently stands at 51-21 impressive, isn't it? His first title as a professional ATP player was at the Croatian Open in 2021. Beating Richard Gasquet 6-2, 6-2 . Followed up with other titles in the Rio Open and Miami Open respectively. It is the Miami Open where he set the record. He beat No 8 seed Casper Ruud 7-5 ,6-4. Where he became the youngest male athlete to win such a tournament.
He currently sits at world no 11. His record in 2022 is fantastic. 18 wins and three losses. He is fast becoming hot cake. No wonder he has been signed on to Rolex which also has one of the old guards Federer and Medvedev as ambassadors.
His highest Grand Slam honor is reaching the quarter-final of the US Open 2021. In that run to the quarter-final, he beat the then World no.3 Stefanos Tsitsipas. A feat not many up-and-coming youngsters have mastered.
At other Grand Slams, he has not fared too well. To be honest, anytime we talk about another breakthrough tennis star they go on to disappoint. Either they become inconsistent or become blighted by injuries. In the worst-case scenario, they do not produce the tennis they once played which made them champions.
But this Alcaraz player is different, you can see the energy, the determination he has to succeed. He is currently competing in the Barcelona Open. He faces Munar in the 1/8 stage who also happens to be a Spaniard.
The future holds big things for this amazing talent.
