Malaria immunization will be expanded by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) as part of the country's attempts to eradicate the illness.

This comes after the successful completion of a malaria immunization pilot program that began in April 2019 and resulted in the administration of over one million doses.

Ghana, Kenya, and Malawi were chosen for the trial study by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, said there has been a drop in in-patient malaria mortality in health institutions from 599 in 2017 to 275 in 2022 during a news conference in Accra yesterday ahead of this year's World Malaria Day celebration.

Despite this, he stated that malaria was still the leading cause of out-patient visits in all health facilities.
